Getting started with Goal Organiser is easy, but if you've never used a goal management application before, you'll probably need an explanation.
Everybody has things to do, whether those things are personal chores such as washing the dishes, projects like building a website, or even work tasks such as phoning a client for your boss. It stands to reason then, that everybody needs some way to keep track of everything, making sure deadlines are met and the chores get done without forgetting about the things that may not seem as important.
This is where Goal Organiser comes in. You enter everything that needs doing, either for a single project, a specific category, or even your whole life. You can assign deadlines and reminder dates, and you can create tags to filter long lists by later on.
With all your tasks entered, Goal Organiser can remember everything for you and intelligently determine what you should be working on at any given time. It can even send you email notifications if a deadline is approaching, leaving you able to free your mind and work more productively on the task at hand.
Goal Organiser is an intelligent tool that will first guide you through creating some initial categories, goals, and steps.
Categories represent the different areas of your life that your goals fit into. When you join Goal Organiser, you will be asked to set up the categories that are relevant to you. Goal Organiser will suggest common categories to help you get started.
Goals are the things you actually want to achieve. They are projects you want to finish, things you need to keep on top of, and dreams you want to work towards. Goal Organiser asks you to enter them and assign each goal to one or more of your categories so it can make sure you are moving forwards in all the areas of your life.
Steps are the individual actions that you can take to help you acheive your goals. Goal Organiser lets you assign each step to one or more goals. You can also add tags so you can sort them into smaller groups of related actions.
Once you have entered all your categories, goals and steps, Goal Organiser will suggest which step you should do next. It shows you a single step so you are not outfaced by endless lists.
If you are unable to complete the suggested step, you can tell Goal Organiser to delay that step until later. You can let Goal Organiser know that you need to complete other steps or goals first, or that you can do it at a specific time in the future. Goal Organiser will no longer suggest that step until your conditions have been met.
When you have completed a step, Goal Organiser will ask you if it needs doing again or not. If it does, Goal Organiser lets you set a delay if you need to, along with a new due date and reminder date if you wish.
If you have worked on a step but not completed it yet, you can let Goal Organiser know. This can be useful when you need to take a break from a task and do something else for a while. It also helps Goal Organiser to keep track of what you have been doing so it can tailor its recommendations.
Each time you complete a step, Goal Organiser checks which goals and categories that step contributes to, and uses this information to suggest what you should do next. It tries to help you balance your efforts between your goals and categories, making sure nothing gets neglected. Each time you mark something as worked on or complete, your recommended step is recalculated to make sure you are always on the right track.
The tags that you assign to your steps can be used to help you group related steps together and work more efficiently. Tag all steps that need doing while you are at work, view them in a list ordered by recommended priority and mark them off as you go. Group steps by their locations, people who are involved, tools needed or the time of day you would rather get them done. Tag relaxing steps to do when you are tired or outdoor steps to do when the sun comes out.
Goal Organiser has been created to intellegently guide you through the process, and special help boxes provide further explanations of features and options. When you have got the hang of things you can turn this help off again.
If you are not so good at remembering things, Goal Organiser can send you email reminders when you have a due date or a reminder date coming up. It can also notify you when you have not completed any steps for a while, or when you have not added any new steps for some time. If you do not want to be bugged by email, you can turn these off at any time.
There is nothing much left to say so if you have not yet done so, sign up now and give Goal Organiser a try!
